Privacy
Reading and searching Gazette Finder needs no account and leaves nothing behind: no cookie, no tracking, no profile. An account, if you make one, holds only what it needs to work.
Who is responsible
Gazette Finder is an independent, free public-interest service. The responsible party for the personal information it holds, and its information officer, are named here before registration opens.
Reading without an account
The public pages set no cookie and are the same for everyone. There is no analytics service, no advertising and no third-party tracker. The web server keeps an ordinary access log — the address a request came from, the page, the time — for running the service, and nothing reads it to learn about a person.
Using Share on a gazette’s page counts that the gazette was shared, through which channel and on which day — nothing about you: no account, no address, no cookie. The networks you share to have their own rules once you open them.
Gazette Finder counts how it is used, as totals for each day: how many times each gazette’s PDF was downloaded, how often the feeds were fetched (the private feeds together, never which one), and what was searched for — the words only, with any run of six or more digits replaced before it is stored, and a search made fewer than three times on a day dropped that night. No count records who, from where, or at what time of the day. The site’s traffic figures — requests, page views, visitors and their countries — are those of Cloudflare, which carries the site, read once a day as totals.
What an account holds
- Your email address, which you sign in with and mail goes to, and a hashed password — Gazette Finder never sees or stores the password itself.
- A name to show on your own pages, if you give one.
- What you choose to keep: the gazettes you save and their notes, your saved searches, what you watch, and how often you want a digest.
- A record of your account's events — registering, verifying, signing in, changing the password or the address — with the address the request came from and the browser it named, kept 180 days, to protect the account.
It never records what you read or search for: there is no history of pages viewed and no search log.
Who sees it
Only you. Nothing you keep is shown to anyone else or on any public page, and staff who run the service can see accounts and their events, never what an account has kept. Nothing is sold, shared or used to advertise.
Private feeds
A saved search or a watched authority can be read as an Atom feed at a private address. Whoever has that address can read the feed, so treat it like a password: share it only on purpose, and make a new address from its page whenever you want the old one to stop working.
Gazette Finder sends the mail an account needs — verifying the address, resetting a password, notices of changes — and, only if you ask for one, a daily or weekly digest. Every digest carries a one-click unsubscribe that works without signing in.
Cookies
None on the public pages. The feedback form sets one that protects the form you send. After you sign in, one cookie keeps you signed in (for up to 90 days), one protects the forms you send, and one small marker says that you are signed in so the page knows to show your menu; it holds nothing about you. Signing out removes them.
Feedback
When you send feedback, Gazette Finder keeps your message, the page it was about, and the description your browser gives of itself (its name and version, and the window's size) — so a problem can be found again. If you are signed in, the message is kept with your account; if not, with the name and address you chose to give, if any. A screenshot is kept only if you attach one, and only staff can open it. No IP address is kept with feedback. An address is used only to reply to you. Feedback is kept as the record of what to improve; ask, and your name and address are removed from it — as they are when you delete your account.
A message from the contact form is kept the same way, as a message to staff: your name and address are asked for because the reply must reach you, and are used for nothing else. A message is never passed to the tools that study feedback for improvements.
Your data, your call
From your account you can download everything it holds as one file, and delete the account. Deleting removes it and everything in it at once; one record stays, that an account was deleted, with no address and nothing else about you.
Terms
Gazette Finder is a free service offered as it is, without warranty. The gazettes are the Government Printing Works' publications: the original always governs, and every page links to it.
